The Heart On The Move

from The Reeducation of a Turd Peddler
by John Henry Peabody

THE HEART WAS ON the move. It did its usual sloshing, banging back and forth against the sides of the jar. It sat in the dark, in the same black bag it had been stolen in, moving with the path of its new owner.
There were voices outside, the owner having conversations. It sat down, stood up, moved along, sat down again and moved back along. When the owner tired, an arm was put around the jar to add support. The sides of the glass passed the weary organ back and forth. Occasionally the heart hit the bottom, then the lid, then the bottom again. It never stopped sloshing when it was on the move, bouncing like a big rubber eraser in its formaldehyde aquarium.
