Western Cartridge Swatches

If Martha Stewart owned a rifle and was a hunter, perhaps she would look at the shards of her pursuit as if they were Pantone color swatches. Here, artist John Graham does just that. He takes the spent 30.06 shells from his visits to firing ranges and forests and colors them in shades with names like "Blue Sea Levi Blue," "Lemon Grove Sunshine Quail Egg Yellow" and "Gold Rush Golden State Gold."
Western Cartridge Swatches mimic the environment they perform in. When they land on the earth after being ejected from the the rifle's bolt action, the shells become part of the Western color scheme; they take on the light, dirt, flora and fauna of California's natural palette. They are Western Color Swatches.
